After a regular season beset with multiple weather cancellations and/or postponements, the qualifying athletes representing the Genoa-Hugo Pirates at the State Track Championships have been set and officially released by CHSAA Monday afternoon, May 15. The State Championships for all competitive classes will again be held at Jefferson County Stadium in Lakewood and are slated for Thursday, May 18, and continuing through Saturday, May 20.

Junior Konner Rowden-Stum, 2022 State Champion in the 1A Triple Jump for the Hi-Plains squad, will be the heavy favorite in the boy’s triple jump Friday, May 19 at 12:30 PM. Konner is seeded #1 at a Pirate School Record hop-skip-jump of 43-2. Konner will also represent the Pirates in the long jump finals Saturday, May 20 at 8:30 AM; Konner is seeded #2 at 21-2.50.

The final athlete to represent the Pirates is Senior Kyler Rowden-Stum; Kyler will run as the 8th seed in the 110M high hurdles with a season-best time of 18.47. Kyler competes Saturday, May 20 at 9:37 AM.

Recognition is well deserved for this year’s athletic success in Track and Field goes to head coach Brittney Isom and her assistant Jennifer Sitzman. The many hours of planning and practice have resulted in a group of student/athletes that have represented the Pirates very well during the regular season and have set up a few athletes with the potential of an individual state championship this weekend at the Track Championships.
